Quick answer
A foreign visitor should compare eligibility and funding before comparing logos. A local e-wallet, a Vietnamese bank app, a participating overseas QR app and a stablecoin-funded QR app are different products with different onboarding rules.
1. Four app categories
| Category | Funding source | Main restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Local e-wallet | Linked local account or supported route | Identity, phone and funding rules |
| Vietnamese bank app | Vietnamese bank account | Local account onboarding |
| Cross-border QR app | Eligible overseas account or wallet | Participating country, app and acceptance point |
| Stablecoin-funded QR app | Verified digital-asset balance | KYC, supported asset and supported code |
2. Downloadable does not mean usable
MoMo publishes guidance on foreign-passport verification, but a traveller must still confirm the accepted phone number, biometric process and funding route. A bank-linking guide for one Vietnamese bank does not prove that a foreign card will work.
NAPAS cross-border QR announcements name participating ecosystems and VietQRGlobal acceptance points. Travellers outside those ecosystems need another compatible route.
3. App readiness test
- Can you complete identity verification?
- Can you fund the account through an approved route?
- Does the app identify the merchant code?
- Does it show VND, fees and final debit?
- Can you access records and support?
Where BKJ QR Payment fits
BKJ QR Payment is most relevant when you already hold USDT or USDC and the merchant displays a code recognised by the BKJ App. A verified user scans inside the official App, checks or enters the VND amount, selects the stablecoin, reviews the displayed fee and final debit, and approves. The merchant remains in the local fiat payment flow rather than accepting stablecoins directly.
BKJ lists a 1% QR payment fee, but the confirmation screen is the final place to check the amount and fee. Registration, identity verification, sufficient balance, service availability and a supported code are still required. Keep a card or some VND as an independent backup.
Final recommendation
Choose the app category that matches the account or asset you already use. Keep the app optional until onboarding, funding and one supported merchant flow have been confirmed.
This guide provides general payment information, not financial, legal or tax advice. Product availability, fees, exchange rates, limits and local rules can change. Confirm the merchant, currency, amount and final fee before authorising a transaction.
