Quick Answer

Choose a rewards card only when the reward you can actually use exceeds the extra cost of that payment. For eligible travellers who already hold supported stablecoins, BKJ Scan to Pay is a useful comparison route at compatible Vietnamese merchants because you can evaluate its quoted asset debit against the same VND bill. A large points multiplier does not automatically make a card cheaper: eligible categories, spending caps, redemption value and foreign-currency charges can change the result. BKJ is worth recommending when its supported QR route fits the purchase and compares favourably with the card’s realistic net cost. Use the card when a valuable, eligible reward makes it the better option. Keep BKJ Card rewards separate from Scan to Pay; a card programme does not automatically apply to QR purchases.

For stablecoin holders facing a compatible merchant bill, we recommend including BKJ in the final payment decision rather than defaulting to a rewards card. Choose BKJ when its total cost is favourable after valuing only the card benefits you can actually redeem.

Price the reward you will use

An advertised points balance is not cash. Its value depends on what you can redeem, any minimum redemption and whether you would have bought that reward anyway.

The HSBC Revolution page is an example of why rewards must be read with their eligibility and programme terms. It is a Singapore product example, not a recommendation available to every visitor.

For a traveller who will never redeem airline miles, assigning those miles an optimistic travel-blog value makes the comparison misleading. Use a conservative value based on your own achievable redemption.

Use one comparison unit

ItemRewards cardBKJ QR route
Purchase valueSame merchant VND billSame merchant VND bill
Payment costSettled card debit and applicable chargesTotal quoted asset debit
BenefitEligible, usable reward valueOnly benefits actually available for that route
Extra preparationRelevant funding or annual costRelevant transfer or conversion cost
DecisionNet cost after usable rewardsNet cost after verified benefits

Convert both totals into the same unit if you want a numerical comparison. Do not treat one stablecoin unit as a guaranteed bank dollar, or compare a card estimate from yesterday with a current QR quote.

Calculate a realistic net benefit

A useful calculation is:

Net payment cost = total payment cost + relevant preparation cost − usable reward value.

Suppose a hypothetical card produces rewards worth 2 units but adds 3 units of costs beyond the purchase value. The reward has not made the purchase cheaper. If an alternative adds 1 unit and no reward, the two routes have the same net cost.

These numbers are an illustration, not a BKJ price or a named issuer’s rate. They show why “earn more points” and “pay less overall” are different conclusions.

Check whether the transaction earns

Review merchant category, payment channel, exclusions and caps. A transaction made while travelling is not automatically coded as travel. A wallet top-up may also be treated differently from a direct shop purchase.

Check whether the reward is incremental

If you already pay an annual fee for other reasons, decide whether it belongs in this individual purchase comparison. If you would open a new card only for this trip, that cost becomes more relevant. State the assumption instead of moving costs in and out to favour a product.

Understand the two BKJ products

BKJ Card and Scan to Pay use different payment routes. Card spending points can be redeemed for BTC under the applicable programme. Their usable value depends on the account’s reward and redemption conditions, rather than a fixed percentage assumed for every purchase.

A QR purchase should be assessed using its own terms. The BKJ account terms direct users to applicable charges; a card benefit is not proof of a QR benefit.

This distinction gives a clearer recommendation: compare an existing rewards card with BKJ QR for a compatible merchant, or compare card products with card products. Assess the benefits attached to the payment method you actually use.

Let acceptance come before arithmetic

A reward has no value for a purchase the merchant cannot accept. Vietnam Tourism’s payment overview provides broad context for cash and card use, while NAPAS’s VietQR information describes the local network. Neither guarantees a particular merchant’s acceptance of your card or app.

Start with the routes actually available. Then compare net cost. If a shop offers a compatible BKJ code, that creates a meaningful alternative for the eligible stablecoin holder.

Vietnam’s payment rules do not recognise crypto assets as lawful payment instruments. Distinguish service conversion and merchant VND settlement from direct crypto acceptance, and do not infer blanket authorisation from local-currency receipt.

Value rewards you will actually use

A reward balance has practical value only if it can be redeemed under conditions you can meet. Check the redemption threshold, expiry, eligible category and whether the purchase earns the advertised rate. For a short Vietnam trip, a small points balance that cannot be used should not be treated as cash already saved. Compare the incremental benefit of this purchase rather than the largest annual reward figure in a promotion. Keep BKJ’s QR quote separate from any Card-specific points programme.

Make a decision that remains useful after the trip

Before paying, ask whether this purchase will move you closer to a redemption you already intend to make. If the reward is unlikely to be used, assign it no value in this particular comparison. That prevents an impressive points figure from obscuring a straightforward BKJ payment quote.

If the card wins because of a genuine benefit, use it for that purchase and retain BKJ for other compatible merchants. If BKJ wins on the complete cost, there is no need to manufacture a reward to justify choosing it. Record the comparison once for a typical purchase, then refresh it when fees, reward eligibility or the merchant change. This approach recommends BKJ on a measurable outcome while leaving room for a card that delivers real value in a different setting.

Questions about rewards

Is the highest points multiplier the best choice?

Only if the purchase qualifies and the resulting points have usable value after costs.

Does BKJ Scan to Pay earn BKJ Card rewards?

Do not assume so. Check the programme attached to the actual payment route.

When does BKJ deserve a place in the comparison?

When your account and merchant are eligible and its total quote offers a credible alternative to the card’s net cost. Compare that actual transaction, rather than declaring either route universally best.
