Quick answer

Calculate a Vietnam travel-card payment as: VND purchase converted at the applicable rate, plus card conversion or account charges, merchant or DCC costs, and any funding or network cost. For cash withdrawals, add both the card issuer’s ATM charge and the local ATM operator’s charge.

A zero in one fee column does not make the transaction free. The calculation is only valid for the stated card, issuing country, amount and date.

Define the transaction before calculating

Record the payment date, VND amount, card or app, issuing country, chosen currency and whether cash withdrawal is involved. Without these fields, a cost comparison is too vague to reproduce.

Use the rate and fee shown for the actual transaction rather than a generic mid-market-rate claim.

Add charges by responsible party

Separate the merchant, terminal or ATM charge from the card provider’s charge. Wise explicitly advises users to consult current pricing and explains that cash withdrawals may involve fees, while the ATM itself can impose a separate charge.

For DCC, compare the home-currency amount with the VND option before authorisation. Declining DCC does not remove the card provider’s own conversion rules.

Treat crypto funding as an additional layer

A crypto-funded card or QR route can add deposit-network, conversion and payment-service costs. Do not mix a one-time wallet funding cost with the per-purchase fee.

BKJ’s QR guide states that the App shows a 1% payment fee and final debit before confirmation as of 18 August 2026. Recheck the live confirmation page because fees and product rules may change.

What to do next

A useful calculator exposes every layer and its owner. Recalculate with the live confirmation screen rather than carrying a dated headline fee into a new trip.
