Quick answer

The absence of a Vietnamese bank account does not remove the normal refund route. Start with the merchant and the recorded transaction status. A merchant normally initiates a refund for a completed QR purchase; a card dispute goes through the issuer; cash refunds depend on the merchant's policy and proof of purchase. Preserve the receipt, amount, time and transaction reference before contacting support.

1. Match the action to the transaction status

Recorded statusFirst actionWhat not to do
SuccessfulAsk the merchant to confirm receipt or start a refundDo not send a duplicate payment
PendingWait for status resolution and keep the referenceDo not retry immediately
FailedCheck whether any debit occurred before trying another routeDo not assume the merchant was paid
Unknown or conflictingCapture evidence and contact the providerDo not rely on a screenshot alone

The status visible in the payment record is more useful than a loading screen or a merchant's first impression. Confirm both sides where possible: the payer's transaction status and the merchant's receipt.

2. Use the route that owns the payment record

For a cash purchase, the merchant controls the refund and may require the original receipt. For a card purchase, contact the merchant first, then the card issuer if the matter remains unresolved. For an app-based QR payment, the merchant usually begins the refund for a completed purchase, while the provider investigates status or processing problems.

A local bank account is not normally required to ask for a refund through the original route. The important requirement is a traceable transaction and an eligible refund under the merchant's and provider's current rules.

3. How BKJ QR refunds are handled

BKJ's current VietQR guide says the merchant initiates a refund. Once the refund succeeds, the funds are returned through the service route. Refund timing can depend on merchant action and processing status, so keep the payment reference and ask the merchant to confirm that the refund request was submitted.

Fee treatment should be checked against the current in-app information and the terms that apply to the service. BKJ's general Terms of Service state that paid fees are non-refundable, while a service guide may describe service-specific handling. Do not promise that every fee, network cost or external funding cost will be returned without product or legal confirmation.

Evidence checklist

  • Merchant name and location.
  • VND amount and the amount debited from the funding source.
  • Date, time and transaction reference.
  • Screenshot of the recorded status, not only the submission screen.
  • Receipt and the merchant's written refund or non-receipt confirmation.
  • A short timeline of what happened and which steps were already taken.

Where BKJ support fits

Contact BKJ support when the App status remains pending, the merchant cannot reconcile a recorded successful payment, a submitted refund does not appear, or the payment record conflicts with the balance. Use the official contact route and provide the evidence above; never share a password or private key.

For a completed purchase that the merchant agrees to refund, ask the merchant to initiate the refund first. Support cannot replace the merchant's commercial decision about whether a purchase is eligible for return.

Final recommendation

Pause before paying again. Identify the recorded status, preserve evidence and contact the party that owns the next step: merchant, payment provider or card issuer. A clear transaction trail matters more than having a Vietnamese bank account.
